A glimpse in Ling Long kitchen with Chef Jason
We visited LING LONG to document Jason Liu using a RED KOMODO-X and DZOFilm Vespid Prime.
Before entering the restaurant, we came across four words from Chef Jason Liu:
umami, tradition, local, memory.
Not menu categories — the foundation of his narrative.
Inside the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, LING LONG’s red-and-black palette draws from Confucian and Taoist aesthetics. We wanted the reds to stay warm and the blacks to keep their depth — balancing intensity with restraint.
Instead of focusing on plating or fast-cut sensory shots, we captured quieter moments:
the knife meeting the board,
steam shaped by side light,
the pause between wok movements.
In grading, the question wasn’t “Does it look good?” but “Does it reflect his philosophy?” So we moved away from dramatic black-and-gold tones and leaned into a warmer, more natural image.
The challenge wasn’t technical — it was keeping every frame rooted in local texture while carrying an international perspective.
That’s why LING LONG is worth documenting.
