Chanel & Moi: Photographing Chanel’s new retail spaces in Shanghai and Beijing
For Chanel, every retail space is more than a store. It is an expression of the brand’s identity—where architecture, materials, lighting, and objects come together to create a distinct experience.
For Chanel & Moi, ARTIK was commissioned to photograph Chanel’s spaces in Shanghai and Beijing, focusing on the architecture and interiors and capturing the relationship between the refined details and the overall atmosphere.
The photography was approached with a strong focus on material, proportion, light, and composition. Rather than simply documenting the spaces, the aim was to create images that communicate the feeling of being inside them.
From carefully crafted surfaces and furniture to architectural lines and subtle details, each photograph reflects the precision behind Chanel’s retail environment. Natural and architectural light were used to reveal textures while maintaining the quiet, sophisticated character of the spaces.
Working across Shanghai and Beijing also offered an opportunity to capture two locations within the same visual language while allowing each space to retain its own architectural identity.
For ARTIK, photographing luxury retail environments is about finding the balance between documentation and visual storytelling—creating imagery that can communicate both the design of a space and the atmosphere of the brand.
